Doesn't It End Here?
Arnioe -  Crossover Prog
Review by AtomicCrimsonRush
Special Collaborator Symphonic Team

"Doesn't It End Here" is the latest release from Australian band Arnioe and it unleashes the creative talents of founder, vocalist and multi instrumentalist Aron Scharfegger. The focus is on the instrumental sections where Aron plays guitar solos and indulges in glorious keyboard workouts. His vocals are easy listening style, and the lyrics are based on searching for meaning and love, as well as metaphysical themes and dreams, and what is on the other side. Aron is joined by the steady rhythmic beat of percussionist Richard Paitsh, and bassist Alan Seis. There are passages of beauty with the viola and cello from the hand of Liz Sisales.

The music ranges from heavy Prog through to the moods of ambience and tranquillity with such gorgeous pieces as 'Save Me from Falling', opening with a bed of spacey synthesizers in the spirit of Pink Floyd's 'Shine On'. It builds gradually with esoteric guitars and a breath of piano. Then it bursts into a full blown rollicking rhythm with a great bassline and drum beats with a frenetic organ working overtime and some guitar riff distortion. It is a great start to the album.

'River of Mercury' is laced with synth chimes tingling and a smattering of viola until the tempo quickens and swooping spacey synths soar. The vocals are well executed and more raspy than Aron on past albums. The piano reverberates beautifully as cosmic synths from Mars shimmer over and are joined by a delightful high pitched keyboard; extremely spacey.

'Don't Know' opens with spaced up synths and then rhythmic acoustic vibrations with more than just a hint of Yes' 'And You And I'. I like the melody on this as Aron sings to the guitar, and there are some very pleasant acoustic picking along with the strumming. Aron sings "you say that secrets have been found but I don't know". The chorus sounds similar to an acoustic Led Zeppelin song I have heard. Later the song becomes interlaced with quivering pitchy synths and symphonic pad. Suddenly a metal distorted guitar crunches in and some delirious lead solos, bringing the song to another level. It is an awesome innovative song with many mood swings to delight in.

After these fantastic three songs, the album continues its level of excellence on 'Chinese Whispers'. an infectious guitar riff cranks along over a swirling synth foundation. The riff is wonderful making me want to pick up my guitar and work it out. This song again features some great vocals over a wall of sound, and it blazes with acoustics and a melodic chorus. The lead break plays over the heavy riff with admirable skill. Then piano in staccato style and some vocal intonations change the mood. There are some glorious synth workouts towards the end; a terrific track.

'Asian Eyes' pulls back the sound to an isolated piano playing pretty notes as Aron sings melancholy style. The key pads are beautiful underneath, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity. Later it builds to an emotional lead guitar break with nice string bends on full stretch and tremolo. It is one of the best guitar solos on the album and really lifts the emotional resonance. The squiggly synths enter and a very different faster style ends the track.

'Endless Dream' opens with piano and vox sounding a lot like Peter Gabriel; "how can I survive?" A haunting piano interlude comes later, and some angelic harmonies and a beautiful Cello solo creating a Gothic soundscape. Easily the most ethereal song on the album.

'See You On the Other Side' is a mini epic just under 10 minutes, and features a rhythmic acoustic beat and shimmering organ as the verses are sung. There are several time sig changes from hyper fast to slow and measured. This has a number of complex switches in cadence and time signatures. The shuffling rhythm that breaks through is a rocker and always is followed by a steady tempo. There is a break and Aron sings, "rise, breathe, see another day with me, near, far, reach beyond the stars." The guitar here reminds me of the coda of Yes' 'Starship Trooper'; in the same way it reminds me of the extended coda of Arnioe's 'Centre of the Universe'. What an awesome track to close the album.

In conclusion I believe this is Arnioe's best album to date. It is certainly very symphonic and spacey and perhaps one of his most progressive in terms of musicianship and song structures. On first listen I was impressed, but on subsequent listens the songs really grew on me. The guitar riffs are catchy, the synths are mesmirising and the vocals are superb throughout. This is a wonderful album with some of the best musicianship from the creative talents of Arnioe.

VERDICT: 4 stars out of 5

MAY 2015

Hi fellow Progrock Fans,

Another year has flown by again at an unbelievable rate of knots and everyone here at the ‘ARNIOE Institution’ hopes this newsletter finds you all healthy and happy.

Our creative juices have once again been flowing and we have produced another collectors gem titled “Doesn't It End Here”.

As per the previous few albums, ARNIOE likes to create their music around a specific theme.

"Doesn't It End Here" is the story of the first Chinese Qin Emperor (Qin Shi Huang) who instructed over 700,000 craftsman to build an underground city where he would then eventually live in the afterlife. This entailed a replica city of Xianyang, including sky, stars and a river (unfortunately made of mercury).

To protect him, he ordered craftsman build 8000 life size Terracotta soldiers, 130 chariots and over 650 horses. All this is UNESCO Heritage listed and can be seen close to the Chinese city of Xien.

The music is based in the style of YES, which is very varied, moody and at times quite complex.

ARNIOE has retained the same musicians as on the past 2 albums but to ad more drama has invited special guest Liz Sisales to feature on A few songs playing Viola and Cello....the combination is brilliant.

So..sit back and relax and experience the drama, turmoil and passion which is...."Doesn't It End Here ?"

You can listen to 30 second samples of every track on the CD baby website at:

or just click onto the Discography page on this website and follow the links.

As usual we would love to hear some feedback, please email me direct at:

Thank you kindly to everyone who has already done so.

In the meantime, stay healthy and happy.

All the best

APRIL 2014

Hi fellow Progrock Fans,

Another year has flown by again at an unbelievable rate of knots and everyone here at the ‘ARNIOE Institution’ hopes this newsletter finds you all healthy and happy.

Our creative juices have once again been flowing and we have produced another collectors gem titled “The Levenworth Files”.

Late last year I got in touch with one of my old musician mates Alan Seis who’s bass playing has always fascinated me. The mood of this album had to be darker and heavier and Alan’s custom 6 string bass was just the sound we needed – very low and ‘grungy’.

Also, once again Richard Paitsh agreed to do all the drum and percussion work – always very reliable and solid.

“The Levenworth Files” is a concept album, describing the life and times of inmate Mike Donaldson, taking you through a journey of the highs and lows during his time in “Levenworth”.

We hope you enjoy listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it.

Special thanks to everybody here behind the scenes for their continual great work.

You can listen to 30 second samples of every track on the CD baby website at:

or just click onto the Discography page on this website and follow the links.

As usual we would love to hear some feedback either in our Guestbook or email me direct at:

Thank you kindly to everyone who has already done so.

In the meantime, stay healthy and happy.

JUNE 2011

Hi fellow Progrock Fans,

The last few months have been totally taken up with expanding, renovating and rebuilding our new studio, and it has turned out............'awesome'.

We still plan to release our next album early 2012 and between nailing and wiring, have been able to put down some 'base' tracks, ideas and riffs.

At the moment we are negotiating with some new guest artists for the upcomming album, and this is always an exciting part of album preparation so........stay tuned.

Somehow, we are also receiving royalties (money) from a 'Playstation' game but in this crazy world of downloads etc. we are unable to find out what ARNIOE song is being used....so if any one out there knows, could you please let us know as well.....and also what game.....that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you worldwide to everybody who has bought any of our albums, signed our guestbook or has just sent us an email saying 'Hi'........we love you.

Untill next newsletter, stay healthy and happy...and be good to your fellow man.

Hi Everybody,

We hope this newsletter finds you all healthy and happy.

As in the words of the great ‘George Kastanza’ – “I’m back baby”.

Early last month I was hit, head on, by a 4WD while out cycling, but can report to you all that I’m healing very quickly and last week went back into the recording studio to continue working on the new album – ‘Ate My Words’ -  due out January next year.

Thank you dearly for all your love and well wishes.

Hi everybody.

What’s with the headline dude? (I hear you say)

A few weeks ago ARNIOE was inducted into the Progarchives  - see website:

www.progarchives.com

They have over 5000 bands and artists on their site all under the banner of Progressive Rock.
On the home page, they display the top 40 most popular artist and believe it or not, over the past 3 days ARNIOE has been up there placed 10th, 11th & 11th.

A veteran Progarchive reviewer has also reviewed our latest epic double CD – ‘So Heaven Is Gone’ and awarded it 4+ stars out of 5.

Interest has naturally skyrocketed, along with sales, so everybody here involved with the ARNIOE Project would like to thank you all dearly for your support.

Thanks to all our new friends, and everybody who has left their lovely comments in our guestbook.

August 2009

 Hi Everyone

We hope this letter finds you healthy & happy.

Sorry for not having made contact with you for a while, but when I’m in the ‘creating mode’ I really suck at the communication side of this business.

We’ve been absolutely flat out creating our next album – due out in January 2010 – titled:

‘So Heaven Is Gone’

The song writing machine was in overdrive over the last few months and we’ve churned out so much good material that we’ve decided that ‘So Heaven Is Gone’ will become similar to the good old fashioned ‘double LP’ and contain approx 90 minutes of compositions.

Furthermore, we have upgraded the recording studio which enables us to have vastly more recording tracks on this album which means BIGGER production and BIGGER sound. In the meantime there is still a lot of work to be done but we are all ecstatic with the results so far.

We will let you know how things are going.

Thanks to everybody who has signed the guestbook at: www.arnioe.com

or emailed me at:

with all your lovely messages and inspirational lines.

Take care and be kind to your fellow man.

JULY 2008

Hi everybody.

We hope this message finds you all healthy and happy.

It has been a while since the last Newsletter and we do apologise, but super guitarist Greg Genna and myself have had an extremely productive period with writing and recording.

As well as that we were asked by our good friend Rob Power to provide 8 minutes worth of music for one of his side ventures – a photo motion DVD slide show to commemorate the last 12 months of Rugby Union in Cootamundra. Check it out at www.robertpower.com.au For any fan of rugby and photography it is a great DVD and we have been told sales are going well.

We have been getting some great feedback so have decided to re record the last section of the song (for better album appeal) and use it on the next album.

The latest album ‘For I’ve Been There” has been selling very well (thanks again Dover, Delaware, USA and your fan base) and thanks to everyone around the world for your support.

Well, until next time. Keep up with the latest at:

Hi everybody.

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that ARNIOE has been chosen to provide the backing music & film score for the unbelievable real life expedition which is “TOP TO TOP”

Their cause is to raise awareness of the environment and global warming.

As their project does rely heavily on public donation, a percentage of all ARNIOE CD sales will go back to help support their expedition.
